The Bhoys newbie, signed from West Bromwich Albion last month, had a debut to forget in Catalonia.

Given the choice, Barcelona at the Camp Nou is perhaps the last fixture in which a defender would wish to begin his career at a new club. Unfortunately for Celtic’s Cristian Gamboa, the decision wasn’t down to him.
The summer signing from West Bromwich Albion was thrust into action during the Bhoys’ Champions League group stage opener, as part of a five-man back line, and had his worst fears quickly realised.

The La Liga champions, who won the competition 18 months ago and were quarter-finalists last year, struck seven past Brendan Rodgers’ side, with no reply, raising questions of those tasked with defending the Celtic goal.
Gamboa, on his debut, was naturally afforded much of the spotlight, and the early consensus among Bhoys fans is – to sugar-coat things – not great, as evidenced by the following tweets:
Barcelona line-up read like a who’s who of world football, with Lionel Messi (3), Luis Suarez (2), Andres Iniesta and Neymar sharing the goals between them.

And thankfully, there are some who were able to see the bigger picture…
