David Moyes reportedly wants the Celtic job if Brendan Rodgers leaves the Scottish Premiership champions for Leicester City.

David Moyes, Manager of Sunderland gives his team instructions during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Sunderland at Emirates Stadium on May 16, 2017 in London, England.

With an eighth successive Scottish Premiership title on the line, Celtic really didn’t need a distraction like this.

Thanks to Leicester City’s 4-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, and the subsequent sacking of Claude Puel, the future of Brendan Rodgers is suddenly up in the air.

The Scottish Sun reports that Rodgers has emerged as Leicester’s main candidate to replace the departed Frenchman, even if it would take £6 million to prise him away from the Glasgow giants.

Rodgers might not be an undisputed legend in the eyes of every supporter, thanks in part to his continued failures on the European stage, but he has won the domestic treble in both of his seasons at Parkhead with an undisputed ‘treble treble’ on the cards.

And suggestions that the former Liverpool boss could be replaced by none other than David Moyes haven’t gone down well with the masses.

Moyes, who started his playing career in green and white, is eyeing the job already, according to The Mail. The Scot, however, is no longer one of the most promising young managers around, seeing his reputation take a battering during spells at Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

It looks set to be worrying few weeks for the Celtic supporters.
