Celtic claimed the bragging rights in today’s Old Firm derby, defeating Rangers 2-0 at Hampden Park in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup.
The Bhoys, who are a division above their Glasgow rivals, showed their superiority by essentially wrapping the game up before half time.
Leigh Griffiths got the ball rolling for Celtic, heading home Stefan Johansen’s cross at the back post before Kris Commons made it two with a superb finish.
Commons, 31, is out of contract at the end of the season, and proved why he deserves a new deal by smashing home a left footed strike into the top corner from 20 yards out.
The former Nottingham Forest man was influential throughout, and Celtic need to make sure they keep hold of the playmaker beyond the end of this season.
Celtic fans took to Twitter after the game to celebrate the win, and were full of praise for midfielder Commons too, with many supporters demanding that he is offered a new contract to stay at Celtic Park.
