Celtic’s Europa League campaign came to an end, but only after an incredibly spirited performance from Brendan Rodgers’s men.

Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Jonny Hayes’ performance during their Europa League tie with Valencia on Thursday night.
Brendan Rodgers’s men have been knocked out in the last 32 of the competition for the second year running. But their defeat in the Mestalla only came after an incredibly spirited performance against Los Che, who won 1-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate.
It was always going to be a difficult night for the Bhoys, and their task was only made tougher when Jeremy Toljan was sent off for two yellow cards during the first-half.
But Rodgers’s side stepped up and put in a major effort. And Hayes was arguably one of those who gave the most to try and set up a dramatic finish. He never seemed to stop running down the left wing throughout the game.

He may have been caught off guard by the sumptuous ball over the top that led to Valencia’s goal on the night, but overall, it was another excellent display from the 31-year-old.
And unsurprisingly, he has been lauded by a number of the Celtic supporters on social media. It may have been a disappointing result, but plenty of Hoops stars left the fans feeling extremely proud – and Hayes may well have been the man to generate the largest number of plaudits on Twitter.

Here is what some of the fans made of Hayes’ performance…
