Celtic are eyeing a summer move for Hibernian midfielder John McGinn, according to The Express.

McGinn has impressed for Hibs this season, helping them clinch a return to the Scottish Premiership.

The 22-year-old is a Scotland international and has recently also attracted attention from Sunderland.

Right move wrong time?

McGinn is a promising talent but could find his development stalls at Celtic if he makes the move now.

Moving to a club which regularly win the title and will play in the Champions League is undoubtedly a big attraction, but McGinn right now needs to continue playing regularly.

Playing in the top flight will be an adjustment for him after last season’s spell in the Championship, and McGinn will stand a better chance of conquering it if he is playing regularly as opposed to being in and out of the side amid increased competition for places at Celtic.

Playing a season at Hibs could make him a better player, and if he does kick on, then Celtic may come calling next summer anyway, when he is better equipped to make the step up into their team.
