Celtic were reportedly interested in Jermain Defoe in the summer, and some Hoops fans would not mind seeing a move made in January.

Several Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the reports emerging from The Sunday Post over the weekend which have suggested that the Hoops wanted to sign Jermain Defoe during the summer.

Defoe has struggled for game-time since joining Bournemouth ahead of the start of last season. And it appears that he could have had the chance to join the Bhoys in the summer.

The Sunday Post suggests that Celtic looked at a potential move for the 36-year-old during the previous window, but ultimately decided to look elsewhere.

Defoe may not have joined, but the reports have prompted a lot of discussion amongst the Parkhead faithful on social media – with plenty urging Brendan Rodgers to make a move for the veteran in January.

Celtic certainly need to strengthen their striker options when the window opens. Moussa Dembele has not been replaced while Leigh Griffiths is set to spend a period of time on the sidelines.

That has left Odsonne Edouard as the one remaining option, and he has already picked up an injury in the time since Griffiths’ spell away from the game started, so it would be a massive risk not to sign a new goalscorer next month.
