Celtic's German defender Jeremy Toljan (L) pressures Valencia's Spanish defender Toni Lato (R) during the UEFA Europa League round of 32 first leg football match between Celtic and...

Jeremy Toljan’s dream start at Celtic came to an end last night as he tasted defeat for the first time in Glasgow.

His Celtic side were well beaten by Valencia, who simply outclassed Brendan Rodgers’ side.

It was a reality check for Celtic, and Toljan, who on an individual basis acquitted himself well.

He was preferred once again to Mikael Lustig at right-back, with the veteran’s time as first choice at an end.

Toljan left Borussia Dortmund on loan, and playing against Valencia was a better experience for him than sitting on the bench or in the stands watching the German side lose to Tottenham this week.

Jeremy Toljan of Celtic arrives at the stadium prior to the Ladbrokes Premiership match between St Johnstone and Celtic at McDiarmid Park on February 3, 2019 in Perth, United Kingdom.

The on loan star saw plenty of possession in Celtic’s defeat, managing more than 100 touches.

While he was booked for his efforts, Toljan made a decent impression on a chastening night for the side, some fans felt he was an improvement on what Lustig would have offered.

Others were not so sure.

Here is a look at how Celtic fans reacted on Twitter to Toljan’s performance.
