If Celtic fans had their way, it seems likely that Filip Benkovic would be Brendan Rodgers’ top target for either the January or summer transfer window judging by the reaction on Twitter to his display against RB Leipzig.
The Hoops have handed their hopes of progressing out of their Europa League group a massive boost as goals from Kieran Tierney and Odsonne Edouard helped Rodgers’ side to a 2-1 win against the Bundesliga side on Thursday.
It was a phenomenal performance from the Scottish Premiership champions as their remarkable revival continued. And when Celtic supporters point out potential reasons for their turnaround, it is likely that Benkovic’s introduction may be considered one of the key factors.
The Leicester City loanee has been fantastic since coming into the team on a regular basis and his partnership with Dedryck Boyata continues to develop brilliantly.
The pair were immense at the back to deny Leipzig for most of the game, and Benkovic’s performance has left so many supporters on social media urging Celtic to do everything they can to sign the defender permanently.
It seems unlikely that Leicester will want to sell their summer signing, but the Hoops are definitely being given reason to ask the question of the Premier League side in the future as Benkovic is establishing himself as an integral addition to the Bhoys side.
