The Bhoys failed to threaten much in the contest, with an own goal from Jozo Simunovic ultimately proving the difference between the two sides.
Many of Celtic’s players were in poor form during the contest, but Boyata took more stick than most on social media website Twitter.
Boyata has generally looked solid for Celtic in domestic action, but he has struggled with the step up to elite European competition this season.
Celtic are thought to be looking at centre-backs in the January transfer window, which could put Boyata’s place under pressure.
Despite their defeat to Anderlecht last night, Celtic have still managed to qualify for the Europa League knockout stages.
The Bhoys will play European football in the early part of 2018, which represents progress from last year, when they finished bottom of their Champions League group.
