The midfielder’s late miss cost Celtic all three points against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Despite going a goal down to Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany, Celtic very nearly returned to Glasgow with all three points.

Lars Stindl’s 32nd-minute opener left the Bhoys staring at successive defeats against the Bundesliga outfit, but Julian Korb’s red card, which allowed Moussa Dembele to equalise from the penalty spot, threatened to turn the game on its head with 15 minutes remaining.

However, the best chance for either side in those closing stages fell to Celtic substitute Callum McGregor, who screwed wide with a teammate well placed.

With Barcelona and Manchester City to come in Group C, it is likely to prove a costly miss for Brendan Rodgers’ side and, as far as many Celtic supporters are concerned, could also leave McGregor’s Parkhead days numbered.

The Bhoys youth product was a 69th-minute substitute at Borussia-Park and has started less than half of his side’s matches this season as it is.

Is it time to call time on McGregor’s Celtic career, or can the 23-year-old still turn things around?
