Former Rangers player and manager insists Celtic ace is over rated.
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele reacts
Former Rangers striker and manager Ally McCoist has told the Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic striker Moussa Dembele is over valued.
Dembele has scored 17 league goals this season for Celtic and has fired them to the top of the league.
Amid interest from Chelsea late in the transfer window, a valuation of £40 million was touted by The Telegraph, a staggering fee considering Celtic snapped him up for virtually nothing last summer.
McCoist said: “Moussa Dembele isn’t a £30 million or £40 million player and if Peter Lawwell gets that then good on him. There’s a man doing his job very well!
“He might develop into a player of that value. I like him a lot, he can finish. He’s got a good physical presence and movement. But realistically he’s not £30 million, £40 million.”
Whether you agree with McCoist or not, if a club is prepared to stump up the money, then that will be his transfer value, deserved or otherwise.
This summer Celtic are likely to be tested with enquiries from clubs around Europe, with Dembele giving a glimpse of his potential by making an impact in the Champions League earlier this season.
Celtic face Rangers this weekend, an opponent who Dembele scored a hat-trick against earlier this season. He can add to his perceived value by being a match winner again on Sunday.
