Celtic have confirmed that they have signed Stoke City defender Moritz Bauer on a season-long loan deal.

A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react to the announcement that the club made on their official website that Stoke defender Moritz Bauer has joined on a season-long loan deal from the Championship side.

It is little surprise that Neil Lennon has looked to sign a new right-back in the final days of the summer window, with the Bhoys losing both Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa after the end of last season.

But the news that Bauer has arrived has certainly caught a lot of Celtic fans off-guard, with the club announcing on their official website that the Austria international will spend the season on loan with the Bhoys, while the Scottish Premiership champions also have the option to make the deal permanent.

Bauer has endured a tough spell with the Potters. He has made just six appearances for the club since September 2018 and had not been picked by Nathan Jones in the opening weeks of this campaign.

That has left plenty of the Parkhead faithful feeling a little concerned about the prospect of landing Bauer. Stoke are currently bottom of the Championship, so some are worried that he is not going to be good enough for the Hoops if he cannot get in their side.

There is also a lot of frustration that Celtic have completed another loan deal. Some fans clearly do not believe that the club need to pursue temporary signings when they should often have the funds to sign their targets permanently.

Celtic Manager Neil Lennon arrives for the UEFA Europa League Play Off First Leg match between Celtic and AIK at Celtic Park on August 22, 2019 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
