Celtic have confirmed that goalkeeper Dorus De Vries has extended his contract.

Celtic fans have been reacting on Twitter to the news confirmed on the club’s official website that goalkeeper Dorus De Vries has signed a new contract with the Hoops.
De Vries arrived at Parkhead last summer shortly after Brendan Rodgers’ appointment as manager, and he took little time to take the number one spot after Craig Gordon made a slow start to the season.

However, an underwhelming spell between the sticks saw the former Nottingham Forest man drop back onto the bench and not feature from September onward.
He has played once this season and gave an excellent account of himself in the 1-0 win over Dundee in October. And he has been rewarded by being handed a one-year contract extension, with the club confirming on their official website that he is now set to stay until the summer of 2019.

Interestingly, the news has received a mixed reaction on social media. Some Bhoys fans are delighted to see De Vries handed a new deal and actually feel that he should be ahead of Gordon in the pecking order.
However, others have been left somewhat confused. With De Vries now 36 and boasting just five Scottish Premiership appearances since signing last summer, some appear to believe that there is little point keeping him beyond this season, and instead it would be wiser to target a younger stopper to rival Gordon.
Here is the best of the mixed reaction…
