Celtic fans have reacted on Twitter after Brendan Rodgers gave an injury update.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic have suffered a huge blow just days before their return to competitive football as Marvin Compper has been sidelined for three to four weeks.

The former Liverpool and Swansea City manager confirmed, according to STV, that the 32-year-old defender has picked up a calf injury during training and is now a huge doubt for the Europa League ties against Zenit St. Petersburg.

The Hoops go up against Roberto Mancini’s side on February 15, before the second leg on February 22 and are already without Stuart Armstrong, Patrick Roberts and Jonny Hayes.

Rodgers also decided to allow five-time Denmark international Erik Sviatchenko to leave Celtic earlier this week, joining former side FC Midtjylland on loan until the end of the season.

It leaves Rodgers with injury-prone Jozo Simunovic, teenager Kristoffer Ajer and error-strewn Dedryck Boyata as options at centre-back, and the majority fans expect the club to sign a new central defender.

One fan even described the situation as a “central defence crisis”.
