Manchester United’s Scott McTominay shone against Barcelona.

Manchester United will once again have to come from behind in the Champions League after a 1-0 home defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils performed a miraculous comeback to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the competition, and faced a tough task against Barca in the quarter-finals.
Against Lionel Messi and co, few were giving United much of a chance, and they did lose 1-0, as Luke Shaw’s early own goal was enough to give Barcelona the win.
That’s an away goal for the Catalan giants, and whilst United’s comeback against PSG gives them a chance of doing it again, Barca are hot favourites to head into the semi-finals.
United couldn’t even muster a shot on target, and whilst some players struggled at Old Trafford, that can’t be said of midfielder Scott McTominay, who thrived against world-class players.
McTominay, 22, has shown real promise under Solskjaer of late, and he was United’s standout performer against Barca, earning huge praise in the aftermath of the defeat.

It’s easy to forget that McTominay could have been loaned out in January. As noted by Sky Sports, Celtic wanted to take him on loan for the rest of the season, and then-manager Brendan Rodgers admitted his interest in the Scotland international.
Celtic fans have now taken to Twitter to react to McTominay’s display, wishing they could rewind to January to get the giant midfielder to Parkhead whilst laughing at those fans who felt he wouldn’t be good enough for the Bhoys.
Others think Celtic now have no chance of getting him as he continues to shine for United, whilst one fan took more of a Scotland-centric view on the performance, wondering just how he doesn’t start for the national team having impressed on the big stage.
