Rangers captain James Tavernier has been reportedly added to Fenerbahce’s shortlist ahead of the January transfer window as the Turkish side look to bring in a right-back – and Celtic fans have reacted hilariously on Twitter.

Tavernier, 27, has been in superb form for Rangers when going forward this season. He has scored nine goals and created 14 more from the right side of defence.

But question marks still surround the former Newcastle United ace over his ability to defend, with Tavernier caught out multiple times this season from set-pieces. His positioning and decision making have also come into question.

Turkish outlet Fotospor claim that Tavernier has been added to Fener’s shortlist, with former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur director Damien Comolli looking to bring in two new full-backs.

He has targeted AZ Alkmaar man Thomas Ouwejan to fill the gap on the left side of defence, while Tavernier is the club’s first choice for the right-back role. He has a contract until the summer of 2022, after signing a new deal in September.

Ahead of Saturday’s Old Firm derby at Ibrox in which Rangers must win to move onto level points with Brendan Rodgers’ side, Celtic fans reacted hilariously to the reported interest in Tavernier – with some claiming he is not good enough.
