Davie Provan has suggested that Celtic should consider a move for Steven Naismith as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his striker options.
A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to slam Davie Provan’s suggestion to The Scottish Sun that the Hoops should consider a move for Steven Naismith in January.
Brendan Rodgers must surely be prioritising signing a new forward when the window opens. Celtic did not replace Moussa Dembele in the summer and Leigh Griffiths is now set to be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
That leaves Odsonne Edouard as Celtic’s one remaining striker heading into the second-half of the season. And that prompted Provan to suggest to The Scottish Sun that the Hearts star would be worth considering.
Unsurprisingly, the comments have not gone down well amongst the Parkhead faithful on social media. Naismith spent five seasons on Rangers’ books earlier in his career and has clashed with a couple of Celtic players in recent times.
The 32-year-old does boast a very impressive goalscoring record during his second spell with Hearts. But it would clearly be a very underwhelming signing to many of the Celtic supporters.
It appears to be an incredibly unlikely signing, and it would unquestionably be a very unpopular move from Celtic, who will have their eye on the kind of goalscorer who can help them secure another league title and continue their progress in Europe.
