Celtic defender Mikael Lustig is out of contract with the Scottish Premiership champions at the end of the season.

A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to respond to comments that Mikael Lustig made to Swedish outlet Expressen where he suggested that he expected to be at Parkhead next season.
Lustig is one of the longest-serving players within Brendan Rodgers’ squad, having joined the Hoops in 2012 and gone on to make almost 250 appearances for the club in all competitions.
The 31-year-old remains the Bhoys’ first-choice right-back, but his form has arguably been a lot less impressive in recent times. It appears that the number of fans who believe that Rodgers needs to think about replacing Lustig is growing gradually.
But those who want the full-back to be replaced may not get their wish anytime soon.

Lustig is out of contract in the summer, but he has told Expressen that he hopes to be at Celtic next season – seemingly hinting that he expects to be given a new deal with the Hoops.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the news has not gone down particularly well. There is some backing for Lustig to get a new deal, but several fans are not convinced that it makes sense to offer him fresh terms unless he is going to be considered a backup option to a new signing.

Here is the best of the reaction to Lustig’s comments…
