Denayer was linked with Celtic this summer, but chose Lyon instead.

Jason Denayer was integral in Lyon’s Champions League upset on Wednesday night as the French outfit secured a superb 2-1 victory away at Manchester City – and Celtic fans are ruing their club’s failure in attempting to sign the Belgian.
Lyon took a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Maxwel Cornet and an excellent striker from Nabil Fekir, who has remained with the Ligue 1 side despite being heavily linked with Liverpool.
The second half saw City pile the pressure on Lyon, and although Bernardo Silva scored for City midway through the second 45, Lyon held firm largely thanks to the performances of Denayer and Marcelo at centre-back.
The Scottish Sun claimed Celtic were interested in re-signing Belgium international Denayer, after the 23-year-old was loaned to the Hoops in the 2014-15 season where he made 44 appearances and scored six goals.

He is though of highly at Paradise as he helped Celtic do the double that year, winning the Scottish Premiership and the League Cup. But a move to Celtic this summer did not materialise, and Denayer joined Lyon for £10million (ChannelSTV).
Celtic fans rued their club’s failure to re-sign Denayer, as he starred for Lyon on Wednesday night against his former side in Manchester City. One Celtic fan even said he is “twice the player John Stones will ever be”.
