Celtic fans react as Dedryck Boyata comments on his future

Boyata’s future at Celtic remains a big doubt after a tumultuous summer.

Dedryck Boyata has been quoted as failing to put an end to rumours over his Celtic future, as he kept the door open over a possible move – and some Celtic fans have reacted angrily on Twitter.

The Glasgow Evening Times quoted the 27-year-old as saying that he is committed to Celtic right now, but whatever happens in the future remains to be seen.

Indeed, the Belgium international’s current contract – worth £14,000 a week according to the Daily Star – is set to expire at the end of the season but Boyata gave no inclination to fans that he would remain after that.

He said: “I am fully committed with the team and I’m trying to give as much as I can whenever I’m on the pitch. I’m a Celtic player and I’m very happy to be a Celtic player. Whatever happens next, happens next.”

This comes after an interesting summer in which Boyata had impressed at the World Cup, before feigning injury ahead of Celtic’s trip to Greece to face AEK Athens. The side lost 3-1, and Brendan Rodgers said he was fit enough to play.

It has left a sour taste in the mouths of fans, with many still not forgiving the former Manchester City star for his actions in the summer. He was linked with a move to the Premier League, while Italian side were also said to be interested.

Celtic fans reacted on Twitter to Boyata’s most recent comments, with many angry that a player would talk so openly over his future at Celtic – and in their belief, undermining the Scottish champions.
