Rangers boss defended Ryan Kent to no avail
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard came out passionately in defence of winger Ryan Kent.
Kent stood accused of punching Celtic midfielder Scott Brown in the Old Firm derby at the weekend.
The Rangers winger ended up losing an appeal and was handed a one game ban, BBC Sport reported.
Prior to the ban being confirmed, Steven Gerrard said at his Rangers press conference he strongly disputed Kent threw a punch.
He insisted Kent was not violent in his act, suggesting Brown exaggerated the incident.
Gerrard told Sky Sports: “We’ve got our version of events which are totally different than what we feel has been reported or what he’s been accused of, and we will challenge it and see what we get from it.
“We don’t think it was violent conduct, and we don’t think it was in the face. Simple as that.”
The SFA did not accept Gerrard’s view, and Kent has been banned.
Celtic fans strongly disputed Gerrard’s version of what happened, and strongly criticised the former Liverpool player on social media.
