Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic reportedly wanted to sign John McGinn from Hibernian before he went to Aston Villa.

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn was in action for Scotland against Albania on Monday evening, and while Celtic fans were not impressed with the performance of the former Hibernian midfielder, Tam McManus was.
McGinn, who joined Villa from Hibernian in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Times to be worth £2.75 million, featured for Scotland in their UEFA Nations League Group C1 encounter against Albania at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
The 23-year-old midfielder started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the home team won 2-0.
Former Hibernian forward McManus was following the match, and the Scotsman – who now works as a pundit – was impressed with the performance of McGinn.
Celtic fans, though, did not think that the 23-year-old Villa midfielder played well for Scotland against Albania, and believe that the Glasgow giants dodged a bullet by not signing him.
According to BBC Sport, Scottish Premiership club Celtic wanted to sign McGinn from Hibernian in the summer transfer window, but it was Villa in the Championship in England who secured the Scotland international midfielder’s services.
