Celtic may be in the market for a new defender in 2022 – and Hearts ace John Souttar has now been linked with a move to Parkhead.
Cameron Carter-Vickers’ loan from Tottenham ends next summer, and Ange Postecoglou still needs more depth at the back.
Everybody loves a bargain, and Celtic could now pounce for one in the shape of Hearts defender John Souttar.
The Scottish Sun claim that Celtic have now joined Rangers in the race to sign Souttar, alongside a host of English clubs.
Souttar is out of contact at the end of May, which means he can sign a pre-contract agreement from December 1st.
Celtic may therefore be eyeing a bargain deal in January, or simply signing Souttar for nothing.
Three achilles tears in five years have threatened to derail Souttar’s career, but he is fighting fit and thriving this season.
Not only is Souttar excelling for Hearts, but he is also back in the Scotland fold and even scored against Denmark.

Celtic fans react to Souttar rumour
Celtic fans have been reacting on Twitter to the Souttar rumours, with many excited – unlike Hearts fans.
Some want Souttar in green and white right now, believing the club would be ‘mental’ if they don’t sign him.
Others think that Souttar is an upgrade on Nir Bitton and Stephen Welsh, so he is worth a gamble.
Some aren’t sure about his pace in Postecoglou’s system, but the general consensus is that Celtic should make a move for Souttar.
