Celtic were held to a 1-1 draw in Lithuania, as they look to reach the Europa League group stage.

Celtic failed to beat Lithuanian side FK Suduva away from home on Thursday night in the Europa League play-off round, finishing in a particularly unconvincing 1-1 draw – and some fans are frustrated with defender Jozo Simunovic.

Olivier Ntcham put Celtic in the lead in just the third minute after laying the ball out wide to Mikey Johnston, who twisted and turned before delivering an inch-perfect cross for Ntcham to head home.

However, that is as good as it got for Celtic, as they were frustrated time and time again by the Suduva defence. Brendan Rodgers’ possession-based style and working the ball into the box failed to pay dividends.

Indeed, things went from bad to worse just before the half-time whistle, as a free-kick midway through Celtic’s half was chucked into the penalty area before Ovidijus Verbickas headed home – with Craig Gordon at fault.

The Scotland goalkeeper came for the ball and completely misjudged the flight of the free-kick, allowing Verbickas to steal in and head home. Just after the half-time whistle, Celtic’s centre-back crisis deepened with an injury to Simunovic.

Some Celtic fans are frustrated by the Croatian colossus’ injury with Celtic lacking at centre-back, while some criticised his performance up until the injury. One fan Tweeted: “Our defence is made of chocolate”.
