Celtic have been linked with a move for John McGinn in the past, but the Hoops fans seem to hope that little comes of the links.

A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react to John McGinn’s performance during Hibernian’s Scottish Premiership loss to Hearts on Wednesday, and it appears that many are desperately keen for Brendan Rodgers to give the midfielder a wide berth this summer.

The Daily Mail recently reported that the Hoops have regularly been linked with a move for the 23-year-old, who often proves to be a real star for Neil Lennon’s men. The report added that Lennon values McGinn at £5 million, but £3 million may be enough to get something done at the end of the season for any club interested in signing him.

But his display at Tynecastle has left a number of the Parkhead faithful urging Rodgers to avoid making a move during the upcoming window as many felt that he was virtually non-existent as Hibs’ hopes of finishing second in the top flight this term were dashed by their bitter rivals.

McGinn appeared to be outplayed by 17-year-old Harry Cochrane in the middle of the park, and given how important the game was for Hibs – both in terms of the opponents and the significance of a win – the alarm bells have started ringing.

Moving to Celtic will see McGinn appear on the big stage on a much more regular basis, and some of the supporters are concerned that he may not be the kind of player who rises to the occasion like Scott Brown seems to do with ease at the moment.

McGinn is undoubtedly a hugely talented player, and surely has the potential to make himself a success at Celtic if he did make a move in the coming months, but it certainly appears after Wednesday’s result, that some Hoops fans will need to be convinced about him if he did arrive.

Here is the best of the reaction…
