Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to comment on John McGinn after the Scottish League Cup semi-final, and it appears that they cannot decide whether the Hoops should reignite their interest in the Hibernian midfielder.

The Daily Express reported back in June that the Bhoys wanted McGinn and Brendan Rodgers viewed him as a long-term replacement for Scott Brown at the heart of the Celtic midfield.

McGinn has certainly started the season brightly, scoring twice in the 2-2 draw with the Bhoys when they met in the Scottish Premiership back in September, and shining on the big stage at Hampden Park in the semi-final would have surely impressed Rodgers with the January transfer window not too far in the future.

But unfortunately for Neil Lennon’s men, they were unable to end Celtic’s incredible unbeaten run and book their place in the final as braces from Mikael Lustig and Moussa Dembele saw the Hoops win 4-2.

McGinn’s display at Hampden attracted plenty of attention from Celtic fans on social media. But while some were impressed and felt that they would like to see the 23-year-old end up joining the club at some stage, others were not so convinced.

Some suggested that while he is a good player, he is not one who is going to significantly improve the side, and thus, the Hoops should look elsewhere.
