It’s safe to say that Jonny Hayes isn’t exactly proving value for money at Celtic yet.

The Irish winger joined Celtic in a £1.3 million deal from Aberdeen back in June but the former Dons favourite is yet to score or set up a goal in six Premiership games.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers showed his faith in him on Saturday by starting the 30-year-old in the 2-2 draw with Hibernian, but he was unable to repay him.

It remains to be seen whether Rodgers continues to be patient with Hayes – who scored nine goals and grabbed 12 assists for Derek McInnes’s side last term – but Celtic fans on Twitter are rapidly losing theirs.

Fortunately for Hayes, time is on his side in terms of changing his fortunes, but it will have to come before January because, on this form, you wonder whether the Celtic boss will offload him to make room for someone who adds something to the side.

The good news is that he has the talent. He was the only non-Celtic player to be nominated for Player of the Year last season by virtue of his heroics at Pittodrie, so the ability is there but you hope for his sake that he finds his feet – and fast.
