Russell, who is a boyhood Celtic fan, left Derby to join Sporting Kansas City in January.

Johnny Russell has been quoted by the Derby Telegraph as saying that he is “homesick” after moving to MLS side Sporting Kansas City in January – and Celtic have to move for the boyhood Hoops fans (Derby Telegraph).
The 28-year-old winger left Championship side Derby in January in a surprise move that saw the Scotland international jump across the pond to turn out for Sporting Kansas.
He has been in excellent form alongside the likes of United States international players including Mat Besler and Graham Zusi, as well as former Liverpool striker Krisztian Nemeth. He has scored 12 goals and created 11 more in 37 games.
But the nine-time Scotland international was quoted as saying last week that he was homesick, but did state that he was enjoying his time in the States despite only seeing his daughter on occasion.
He said: “I’m a bit homesick at times, but it’s been a great experience, something I’ve had to adapt to and I feel I’ve done that well. Not having family over as frequent as normal, especially having a little girl as well, so it’s been tough.”
Though it does not appear that Russell is looking to move, Celtic need a winger and would surely tempt a boyhood fan who is homesick in America.

The Hoops are lacking in depth in attack, with Lewis Morgan and Jonny Hayes struggling to provide the answer while Scott Sinclair remains a shadow of the player that won the Player of the Season award in 2016-17.
Russell is said to be earning £11,000 a week (Denver Post) in the MLS and has a contract until December 2020, but Celtic would solve their problem area for a move that would surely be easy to complete, as Russell misses home.
