The defender’s Celtic career looks to be over after Rodgers allowed him to join Hibernian on loan.

Celtic exile Efe Ambrose has shared an unexpected opinion of Brendan Rodgers in an interview with the Glasgow Evening Times.

Despite being fully fit, Ambrose has failed to feature under the Bhoys boss since August and was allowed to join Hibernian on loan this week.

With the Nigerian’s Celtic Park contract expiring at the end of the campaign, it is a move which is likely signal the end of his career with the Glasgow giants.

And while many players in Ambrose’s position would be quick to criticise Rodgers, there are no hard feelings from the 28-year-old.

“What I would say about him (Rodgers) is that he’s a genius,” Ambrose told the Glasgow Evening Times. “That’s the only word I can use to describe him. Why? Because he knows the game. He really knows football. That is why I can use the word genius.

“You can see what he’s done at Celtic. He has transformed the boys. We have the same players from last season and he has done some miracle and nobody can really explain how he did it. That’s why I just call him genius.

“For me, I just have to say thanks to him for what he said about me (Rodgers called Ambrose the nicest man in football). There is nothing more to do because I really appreciate him, every time I see him on the pitch, or walk with him at the training ground, I learn so many things.”

Ambrose’s Hibs move sees him reunite with the man who brought him to Celtic initially, Neil Lennon.

The defender arrived at Celtic Park from FC Ashdod five years ago this summer and won four straight Premiership titles, two of which came during the Ulsterman’s reign.

And if all goes to plan, Ambrose could be back facing the Bhoys next season, with the Edinburgh side currently top of the Championship.
