Paul Elliott believes Rangers boss could go on to manage England.
Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is a “natural leader” built for football management and is destined to take the England reins in the future, according to Celtic cult hero Paul Elliott, as reported by BBC Sport.
Ibrox will play host to the first Old Firm derby of the season this Sunday as the Gers and the Hoops lock horns in what is bound to be a fiercely contested clash, both teams hoping to make an early impression in the Scottish Premiership title race.
Since taking the reins at Rangers last season, Gerrard has overseen steady progress within the Ibrox ranks, with two derby wins over their bitter rivals last term, while this summer the Gers have bolstered their ranks considerably and there is real optimism regarding silverware this term.
“Coming to Scotland has been a fantastic move for him,” Elliott told BBC Sport with regards to Gerrard’s move to Rangers. “He was a great player and I always believed he would have a natural progression into management.
“There was just something about him, he’s different, he thinks different. He’s a natural leader and management is in his DNA. I actually think he’s a long-term future England manager, potentially. I rate him that highly.”
After hanging up his boots in 2016 following a long and illustrious career mostly spent at Liverpool and also captaining England, Gerrard spent time coaching at the Anfield club before being appointed at Rangers in the summer of 2018.
