After Rangers humiliation in Luxembourg, two Celtic players came close to experiencing a similar result.

Celtic duo Olivier Ntcham and Moussa Dembele’s France under-21 side survived a major scare against Luxembourg under-21s last night.

The young French side went into the fixture expected to win by several goals, but had to settle for a hard fought 3-2 win.

Luxembourg went 2-0 up and led by this scoreline at half-time, with Celtic forward Dembele missing a clear early chance.

France fought back in the second half with Lille’s Martin Terrier scoring twice including an 87th minute winner, with a goal from Bournemouth’s Lys Mousset.

Celtic midfielder Ntcham was substituted after half-time for Mousset as they looked for a more attacking approach, which ultimately paid off.

Dembele was wayward with his attempts in the second half, with France ultimately relieved to avoid humiliation.

Luxembough are the minnows of European football, but the odd positive result is not beyond them.

Scottish side Rangers were knocked out of the Europa League this summer by the country’s fourth ranked side Progres Niederkorn, a game regarded as the club’s worst ever European result.

Two Celtic stars are relieved this morning to not have experienced a similar loss.
