Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side appear to be set to complete a double deal on deadline day.

Filip Benkovic of Leicester City during the Premier League 2 match between Leicester City and Swansea at The King Power Stadium on August 13, 2018 in Leicester, England.

According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic are set to sign both Filip Benkovic and Youssouf Mulumbu this summer, but there must be the same concern about both additions.

Benkovic and Mulumbu will help to solve problems for Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side, but they are merely papering over the cracks.

Mulumbu is an ageing veteran, and although he will add steel to their midfield for now, there must be question marks over his effectiveness in the long-term.

Benkovic, meanwhile, will arrive only on loan from Leicester City.

Benkovic will help Rodgers’ side strengthen at the back, and looks to be a fine addition. However, his price-tag means that Celtic surely won’t be able to sign him permanently.

Leicester City paid big money for Benkovic this summer, and if he goes on to impress at Parkhead, then his value will only rise.

That will immediately take Benkovic out of Celtic’s price range, which means he is likely to only be in Scotland for one season.

And although Benkovic and Mulumbu will fill holes in Celtic’s squad for now, Rodgers is only going to be looking for further solutions to his existing problems further down the line.
