Celtic have been told what it would cost to bring BK Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen to Glasgow this January.
The 20-year-old, who has already picked up experience with Denmark’s Under-21 side, is highly regarded in Sweden and has been mentioned in connection with both Celtic and Rangers in recent weeks.
Celtic have had some success recruiting from the Scandinavian market before, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were keeping tabs on him.
But according to Football Scotland, Hacken are looking for around £5.5m to let Andersen go, which could make the Hoops think twice before moving forward.
How much Celtic need to spend to sign Silas Andersen revealed
Hacken had already rejected a £3.6m offer from Copenhagen in the summer, and with more clubs showing interest, they now seem ready to push for a higher fee.
Fotboll Direkt have reported that Hacken would now be willing to consider bids around the £8.6m mark for Andersen.
This wouldn’t break the bank for Celtic, but it would still make him one of their priciest additions, trailing only behind the £9m spent on Adam Idah and the £11m paid for Arne Engels.
Silas Andersen could solve a major issue for Celtic
Despite their ongoing success, Celtic have long lacked a true defensive midfielder to play alongside Callum McGregor.
The 32-year-old could benefit from having younger legs next to him, someone capable of covering ground and handling the more demanding box-to-box duties.
Andersen’s ability to cover ground and break up play could free up McGregor to sit deeper and provide added protection in front of the backline.
