This time last year it was transfer deadline day, and Celtic were rather busy.
The Bhoys signed Diego Laxalt on loan from AC Milan while Jack Aitchinson departed the club.
However, perhaps the most notable story on deadline day was a deal that never came to fruition as the Bhoys failed with their pursuit of then-Liverpool winger Harry Wilson.
The Scottish outfit were reportedly priced out of a move for Wilson, and the Welshman instead moved to Cardiff City on loan later in the window.
Since then, Wilson has eventually gotten his permanent move away from Anfield, joining Fulham for £9m, and he looks worth every penny.
Indeed, while Fulham may have hit a rough patch of form lately, Wilson still looks like one of the Championship’s best players. Scoring three goals and providing three further assists this season.
The 24-year-old has been earning all sorts of praise for his performances with Fulham, and it surely won’t be long before he’s back playing top-flight football, be that at Craven Cottage or elsewhere.
Say what you will about the Championship, but these days it’s an incredibly competitive league packed full of quality and it’s hard to imagine the attacker wouldn’t have been able to have a massive impact in the SPFL.
Wilson is speedy, a fantastic finisher, a great long-range shooter and a world-class set-piece taker, and this time last year, Celtic needed a player to tick all of those boxes.
Would the Bhoys have won their 10th league title in a row if they had the ‘dangerous’ former Liverpool man in their team?
Well, that’s a tough case to make. After all, Steven Gerrard’s Rangers did go unbeaten last term, but it may have been a closer run race if the Glasgow outfit had coughed up the cash for Wilson this time last year.
