Cristian Gamboa joined Celtic from West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2016.
Celtic defender Cristian Gamboa has told The Scottish Sun that West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis did not have any trust in him.
Gamboa was on the books of Premier League outfit West Brom from the summer of 2014 until August 2016 when he joined Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.
During his time at The Hawthorns, the Costa Rica international right-back was able to make only five starts, one of which was in the Premier League.
The former Rosenborg defender has spoken about his struggles at West Brom and has strongly criticised manager Pulis.
“For the first six months at West Brom under Alan Irvine, it was good,” Gamboa told The Scottish Sun. “But then Tony Pulis came in and I had no chance at all — not even on the bench.
“Pulis had no trust in me. You know what he’s like as a manager, he was never going to use me. That’s the difference.
“To play for his team, I think I needed a pair of high heels. I asked my wife if I could borrow a pair for training! My confidence suffered at West Brom, of course it did. It was difficult for me.”
West Brom are eighth in the Premier League table at the moment with 32 points from 22 matches.
Meanwhile, Celtic currently find themselves at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with 61 points from 21 matches, 19 points clear of second-placed and Old Firm rivals Rangers and with a game in hand.
The Bhoys will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Heart of Midlothian at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership. Brendan Rodgers’s side should be able to win the game and pick up all three points.
