Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are set to play host to Celtic this weekend.

Celtic defender Mikael Lustig has taken a swipe at Glasgow Rangers in the Glasgow Evening Times, ahead of Saturday’s Old-Firm derby.

Celtic clashed with Rangers in the Scottish Cup last weekend, and finished as 2-0 winners.

The Bhoys were thoroughly dominant in the contest – with Callum McGregor and Scott Sinclair both getting on the scoresheet – and Lustig believes that the result was proof that Celtic are the dominant side in Glasgow.

“We know we are the better team and Rangers pretty much didn’t touch the ball once in the first half,” the Swedish defender said.

“”We played really well and they couldn’t get close to us. So I don’t know who is talking about them getting closer to us. But we have proved and shown to everyone through the whole season and the gap in the league has just grown bigger and bigger every week.

“Of course we won the first game of the season 5-1 and we didn’t get close to that scoreline on Sunday, but I think the performance last Sunday was more emphatic, especially the first half.”

Celtic have won four of the five Old-Firm derbies to take place this season, and Rangers have failed to keep pace with them.

Rangers are currently 33 points behind Brendan Rodgers’ men in the Scottish Premiership table.

New Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha promised fans that this gap would be closed next season, but the Light Blues were well out of sorts at Hampden Park in their most recent outing.

Rangers can take heart, however, from the two sides’ last meeting at Ibrox.

Rangers gave Celtic a scare when they last played host to their rivals, and ended up picking up a 1-1 draw in the contest.
