Celtic defender Mikael Lustig reportedly has two Swedish clubs interested in signing him this summer.
Malmo have entered the race to sign Celtic right-back Mikael Lustig this summer, according to a report from Fotboll Direkt, and have made an offer that is ‘clearly better’ than the one on the table from AIK.
Lustig’s Parkhead future continues to be up in the air. His contract with the Hoops expires at the end of the season, and he has now been relegated to second-choice in his position following Jeremy Toljan’s arrival in January.
Toljan has been a superb signing for Brendan Rodgers’s side in recent weeks. And while he is only on loan until the summer, his form has perhaps pushed Lustig slightly closer to the exit by helping highlight how much the 32-year-old has struggled.
Celtic are seemingly yet to make a decision on Lustig’s future. But should they decide to let him go, it is becoming clear that he will not be short of offers in the summer.
Fotboll Direkt reports that AIK have been tracking Lustig for several months, but Malmo have now joined the race and offered a proposal that is much better than the one made by their divisional rivals. It is also mentioned in the report that Lustig would prefer to head to Stockholm when he does return to his home country, which would seemingly hand AIK an advantage.
Like Celtic, Malmo have reached the last 32 of the Europa League but need to overturn a first-leg deficit if they hope to reach the next stage after losing 2-1 at home to Chelsea.
