Celtic defender Mikael Lustig is confident that Kieran Tierney can handle Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben.

Celtic defender Mikael Lustig has said that Dutch winger Arjen Robben is a major threat for the Bhoys, ahead of their Champions League clash.

The left-footed winger is a world class player, and is arguably one of the best wingers ever to have played for Netherlands.

Any full-back in this world knows what Robben is going to do – he’ll cut inside from the right-hand side, get himself into shooting areas and will hit the target – but he’s still unstoppable.

Robben is delightful to watch, but he is very difficult to defend against. On Wednesday, it will be young Kieran Tierney’s task to keep the Dutch maestro in check.

And Celtic teammate Lustig has said that though Robben is one of the best wingers in the world, he is certain that Tierney is not daunted by the task.

Tierney is a bright young talent, and according to Lustig, the Scotland international is getting better with every game.

Lustig has advised Tierney to “get to him (Robben) early” because if the Dutchman gets the speed up, it will be hard to stop him.

“He’ll be a big threat for Bayern – he’s one of the best wingers there has ever been,” said Lustig, as quoted by the Sunday Mail (printed edition; October 15th – page 68).

“That left foot, you know he’s going to go inside but you can’t stop it. We’ve seen it so many times over the years.

“I’m glad he’s on the other side of the pitch! But it will be a great challenge for Kieran. He won’t be daunted. He’s quite calm and it doesn’t matter how big the game is. He’s just getting better.

“What can you say to Kieran about Robben? Get to him early – but if he gets the speed up it’s hard. He can go left or right. And you hope to get a midfielder across to help out.”
