No player summed up the passion of the Old Firm derby like Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer.

Celtic’s 2-1 victory meant so much to the Norway international, who lived every moment of it.

Late in the game particularly as Celtic defended their lead, Ajer celebrated each block and tackle he made to deny his Rangers opponent.

He was key in denying Joe Worrall a late tap in after Scott Bain had saved a shot from Ryan Kent.

Ajer told the Evening Times: “When I can’t score goals you have to celebrate your own small details that you get in a game so it was a nice block and an important one and I was really delighted.

“It is difficult not to show it sometimes. That is what you dream of by playing football so that was fantastic.

“It was such a big win for us and it was great to be a part of it. I loved it and I feel as though I am learning and developing in the way that I want to here.”

Neil Lennon, Interim manager of Celtic applauds his team during of the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on March 31, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

For all that has been made of Celtic’s defensive issues, the way Ajer has improved over the past few months is really impressive.

With Dedryck Boyata’s contract running out and Filip Benkovic’s loan due to expire, Celtic need Ajer to continue to develop into a top talent.
