Kristoffer Ajer has reassured fans on Instagram that surgery on the broken eye socket he suffered in Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Livingston was a success, and he will now begin a recovery process before returning to action.

The 20-year-old was substituted in the 72nd minute of Celtic’s disappointing draw at Almondvale against Gary Holt’s newly-promoted side, after collapsing in agony following the injury.

He was replaced by Filip Benkovic and it was later revealed that the Norway international had suffered an injury to his eye socket which required surgery – meaning he also missed Norway’s fixtures during the international break.

Ajer, who joined Celtic from Start in his home country as one of Brendan Rodgers’ first signings, posted on Instagram after going under the knife to correct the problem – sporting a rather gruesome looking black eye.

Ajer is considered one of Celtic’s best defenders after proving himself on loan to Kilmarnock in the 2016-17 season before returning in the summer to become a mainstay of Rodgers’ side.

Since joining Celtic, the youngster has clocked up an impressive 53 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions. It remains to be seen when he can make that 54, as he begins recovery from the operation.

Celtic are next in action on November 24, when they play travel to Hamilton to face Martin Canning’s side before jetting off to Ajer’s home country to face Rosenborg in the Europa League.
