The 19-year-old has recently signed a new deal with the Scottish Premiership side.
Kieran Tierney has claimed that it will be Celtic returning to the Champions League that will allow him to take his game to the next level, the Evening Times reports.
The left-back has celebrated an excellent first full season in the Hoops’ first-team by recently signing a new five-year deal at Parkhead (via Evening Times).
And having not fully established himself in the Bhoys team this time last year, this season should present the 19-year-old with his first taste of Europe’s premier competition, and he has suggested that getting an opportunity against the continent’s best will help him make several strides forward in his development.
“It’s really important to get back in to the Champions League. That’s what we’re working towards. Not being in it the past two years hurt everybody at the club. Everyone will benefit if we get in. Playing there is the next stage for me hopefully. Last year we had the Europa League which was the level below obviously. It was good to get that experience but now I want to make the step up this season,” he told the Evening Times.
Despite being a defender, Tierney has arguably impressed most when he has gone flying down the line to offer support in attack.
And while he has still been incredibly consistent when it comes to doing his defensive work, featuring in the Champions League will present the Scotland international with the chance to work on that side of his game much more regularly as he tries to keep the best wingers from across the continent quiet.
So, the further the Hoops progress in the competition, the quicker that Tierney will realise the frightening potential he clearly possesses.
