It was initially feared that Tierney might have broken his ankle but those fears were fortunately allayed swiftly. But the damage to his ligaments was still sufficient to see him go under the knife.
Tierney had to have an operation on the problem and confirmed that everything had gone according to plan on his official Twitter account yesterday. The 19-year-old sent this post:
Celtic fans will no doubt be hoping that Tierney recovers from his injury as soon as possible. At the moment, their experienced defender Emilio Izaguirre is filling in. The Honduran is a veteran at the club but lost his place to Tierney initially last term after some poor performances.

Celtic are also short of options should Izaguirre be out of action.
Tierney, who seemed more disappointed to be missing out on watching MMA superstar Conor McGregor fight Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, will hopefully be back in action as soon as possible.
