Celtic defender has caught the attention of Stoke City in recent times.

Efe Ambrose has hinted to Own Goal Nigeria that he could well leave Celtic this summer.

Ambrose’s contract at Celtic expires in the summer, and there does not appear to be much chance of the 28-year-old being offered fresh terms.

Brendan Rodgers seems to have doubts over utilising Ambrose, and loaned the centre-back out to Hibernian in January.

Ambrose has been in good form for Hibs, with his performances reportedly catching the eye of Stoke City.

And Ambrose has suggested that a switch to the Premier League could appeal to him.

“I have never hidden my desire to move to England,” Ambrose said. “I love the league, the culture and the environment but for now am focused on helping Hibernian gain promotion to the Scottish top flight.

“As for the question you asked me about Stoke City’s interest, all I can say is that am open to offers and I have received some. Soon I will decide, summer is close you know.”

If Ambrose does leave Celtic it will bring to an end a five year stay with the Glasgow side.

Ambrose has made 168 appearances for Celtic in total, but lacks the technical ability to fit in with Rodgers’ possession based style.

Ambrose’s immediate attention will be on helping Hibs earn promotion to the Scottish Premiership, with Lennon’s side currently leading the way in the second tier.
