Celtic take on Fenerbahce on Thursday night in the Europa League.

Dedryck Boyata has said, at a press conference covered by the club’s official Twitter account, that he will be trying to make a statement with his performance in Celtic’s Europa League match against Fenerbahce.

Boyata is hoping to start against the Turkish side on Thursday evening, and the centre-back is keen to put in a good display.

With Jozo Simunovic returning to fitness, competition for places in Celtic’s defence is hotting up, and Boyata is determined to stay in Ronny Deila’s first-team plans.

Boyata struggled for first-team appearances at his former club, with Manchester City tending to overlook him in favour of their more established names.

However, since the 24-year-old moved to Scotland, he has become a regular feature in the Bhoys team, and already boasts 13 appearances this season.

He made a shaky start, but has improved in recent times and has played a key role as Celtic have tightened up at the back.

The Bhoys have kept back-to-back clean-sheets in the last two games that Boyata has played, and he certainly would make a statement if he is part of a side that keeps Fenerbahce out in midweek.
