Celtic could have been dealt a major blow just 48 hours before their first meeting with Rangers on Saturday as the Scottish Sun report that key striker Leigh Griffiths is a doubt for the match after missing training on Thursday.

The Old Firm rivals meet in the league for the first time in four years at Celtic Park on Saturday lunchtime and the build-up and fanfare ahead of the game has been predictably intense.

Both sides are unbeaten in the league in their opening games, with the Bhoys winning all three of their fixtures and the Gers registering two wins and two draws.

For Griffiths, who scored 40 goals in all competitions last season for the Hoops, it has been another lightning start this term and the Scotland international has already racked up seven strikes.

However, the Scottish Sun report that Celtic could be dealt a huge blow for Saturday’s showdown as their key striker is a major doubt for the game.

Griffiths pulled out of the national squad with a hamstring injury last week, and he is thought to have missed training on Thursday.

The 26-year-old was also replaced on his planned media duties by winger Patrick Roberts, and it appears as though he could be set to miss one of the biggest games of Celtic’s season.

If true, it is a huge blow for Brendan Rodgers, who will likely have to rely on young summer signing Moussa Dembele to lead his line in what will be the cacophony of noise and extreme pressure that is an Old Firm meeting.
