Celtic fans were celebrating major news on Monday evening, as left back Kieran Tierney penned a new six-year contract to stay with his boyhood club.

The Bhoys tied down Stuart Armstrong to a new two-year deal in August, and they have now moved to secure Tierney’s future with a bumper six-year contract.

Left back Tierney, 20, joined Celtic as a seven-year-old having supported the club as a boy, and he rose to stardom as a teenager having become a regular in the 2015-16 season.

Now one of the top young left backs in Europe, Tierney has become one of Celtic’s most important players, and Brendan Rodgers will be delighted to have made sure that Tierney stays at Celtic Park for the foreseeable future.

It’s just last week that The Scottish Sun reported that Tottenham Hotspur have been scouting Tierney, with Mauricio Pochettino eyeing a new left back – but Tierney is now seemingly off the market.

Still, Tottenham should still have two targets if they do want to sign a new left back, given question marks over Danny Rose’s long-term future in North London; Luke Shaw and Ryan Sessegnon.

Pochettino worked wonders with Shaw at Southampton in the 2013-14 season, helping him earn a move to Manchester United, but with a lack of football at Old Trafford and a suggestion last week that he wants to work with the Spurs boss again.

If Spurs can’t add Shaw, then Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon sticks out as another top target. The 17-year-old wing back fits the bill perfectly if Spurs need to replace Rose, possessing great pace, attacking ability and huge potential.

Much depends on Rose’s future, and whilst Spurs may have suffered a minor blow with Tierney’s new deal, there are still two talented young left backs who fit the bill and should be targets for Spurs.
