Celtic could make a return to the Irish market in January with a move to sign red-hot Shamrock Rovers playmaker Danny Mandroiu.

The Bhoys pounced to sign defender Liam Scales from Shamrock Rovers over the summer.

Scales has yet to really break through with Celtic, but the Bhoys could now return to the Irish club in search of another signing.

The Scottish Sun claim that Celtic want to sign playmaker Mandroiu in January having tracked him in recent months.

Celtic are believed to be confident of securing Mandroiu’s signature given that he has just a year left on his Rovers deal.

Mandroiu, 23, has been in ridiculous form for Rovers. In his last 34 league outings, he has smashed 15 goals and five assists.

Formerly of Brighton, Mandroiu is now around the Ireland international setup and could land a big move to Celtic.

So what kind of player would Celtic be getting?

Rovers teammate Ronan Finn has told The 42 that he thinks Mandroiu is a ‘fantastic footballer’, but combines his technical ability with ‘brilliant’ work rate.

“You look at his talent. You look at his technical ability. And you look at his work rate,” said Finn. “You don’t come into this Shamrock Rovers team if you don’t work, you don’t last if you don’t work and Danny works as hard as anyone.”

“I wouldn’t say Danny has got stronger [this season], he’s just been brilliant. A fantastic footballer, someone that’s fitted into the group. Work ethic — brilliant. Buys into the concept of the manager. Brilliant recruitment from the manager,” he added.

The success rate of players leaving the League of Ireland is mixed to say the very least, but Celtic could unearth a real gem with a deal for Mandroiu.
