Celtic appear to be closing in on the signing of Yokohama F Marinos attacker Daizen Maeda ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

Japanese news outlet Sponichi claim that Maeda’s move to Celtic is now in the final stages after the Bhoys made an offer.

The report seems to suggest that Maeda will actually join Celtic on loan for the second half of the season.

Celtic would then have the option to turn the move permanent at the end of the season.

The fee for that deal would be 200 million yen – around £1.3million.

This would at least give Celtic a chance to see how Maeda fares in Scotland before committing a seven-figure fee to his signature.

Who is Celtic target Daizen Maeda?

Maeda, 24, played under Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou with Yokohama F Marinos.

With 23 goals in his last 36 league games, Maeda has been a star in the J1 League.

Maeda can play up front, behind a striker or in from the left flank whilst having superb pace.

Stats show that Maeda makes a ridiculous number of sprints, making him ideal for Postecoglou’s high-energy style.

With Kyogo Furuhashi already starring at Celtic, Maeda could join him as Celtic’s latest Japanese star.
