Michael Sparkes has revealed on Twitter that he has left Celtic.

The 18-year-old joined his boyhood club at the age of 12 and put pen to paper on a professional contract back in 2018.

But the teenage prospect is now leaving Celtic after confirming the exit in a heartfelt post on social media.

Sparkes revealed that he has enjoyed his stint at Lennoxtown ‘for the most part’ and hinted that something exciting could be the pipeline.

Back in January, the former Celtic youth was linked with a move to Crystal Palace.

The Scottish Sun reported that he was invited to London for a trial with the Premier League club and it remains to be seen whether he ever pursued the opportunity.

Being a striker, the route to Neil Lennon’s first team is very congested.

Leaving aside the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Lennon also has £3m hitman Patryk Klimala in his ranks, while Jonathan Afolabi could play a role next term after originally joining last summer.

It’ll be interesting to see where Sparkes winds up, but it was a tall order for him to make his senior debut for the Parkhead side.
