A year ago, some Hoops fans praised Main, but this summer, his move from Motherwell to Aberdeen was derided by quite a few Dons faithful.
Aberdeen have completed the signing of forward Curtis Main – a player which some Celtic fans previously compared to John Hartson – from Motherwell.
The 26-year-old moves to Pittodrie on a two-year deal after 18 months at Well, during which he scored 14 goals in 58 matches.
Main, who came through the ranks at Darlington, will also be reunited with Dons coach Barry Robson, whom he worked with during his time at Middlesbrough.
The South Shields-born player began brightly following his switch north of the border from Portsmouth to Motherwell, registering five goals and two assists in his first 10 Scottish Premiership games (Transfermarkt).
Main’s initial impact in Scotland led to a number of Hoops fans taking to Twitter to praise the player, comparing him to the Parkhead legend and even expressing a desire for a potential future bid:
Since then, however, Main’s form has taken a downturn, and in 2018-19, he scored just six goals in 37 appearances in all competitions, plus five assists (Transfermarkt).
Needless to say, the reaction from a number of Aberdeen fans as Main’s move was confirmed seems to speak volumes and suggests that Celtic have dodged a bullet in never pursuing what some of their supporters were hoping for a year ago.
